We were faced with a big challenge in that we needed to gather customer feedback for a novel new product in the UK, but did not have a local sales team to help facilitate interface with potential users. SoWhat Research helped us resolve this issue by serving as a one-stop resource for market research. Working with Baz & his team was an excellent experience; they were extremely professional, quick to understand our objectives & develop a working knowledge of the product. They made the experience seamless for us by coordinating all critical aspects – recruitment, development of the interview guide, conducting of focus groups and interviews, coordinating honorarium for interviewees, and development of in-depth final report. A swift turnaround time for the project was also a major plus; they were able to complete the project within the desired time frame and on budget. We found SoWhat Research to be the most efficient and cost effective solution for market research within the UK market.

Company description: Medical device marketing consulting

We’ve worked with So What over the past few years on several different initiatives. Our experience with them is broad, ranging from focus groups and in-depth-interviews to consulting on quantitative market data analysis.

We have been extremely satisfied with the quality of the results and the effort and integrity of the staff. The reports they deliver go well beyond simple data summary – a great deal of thought is put into their final product. Their team adds perspective based on broad industry knowledge, and gives a value-add not often found at other market research facilities. I highly recommend So What.

This project was commissioned largely as a piece of field research involving service users and partner agencies. We reaped enormous additional value from So What's efforts and ability to immerse themselves in Big Issue operations. They skillfully built trusting relationships with key stakeholders and subsequently provided deep insights that have enabled us to enhance our service going forward.'

Cheers for now.

Stephen.

We found working with So What to be productive, collaborative and fun process. For the concept of our new company, we needed to firmly determine the need and the niche in order to ensure success quickly. So What was able to craft a discussion guide to gather qualitative feedback and then distill it down to a usable report -- that we continue to rely upon! As important, the fees were within what a small company like ours could afford.

Kristine A. Morrill, founding partner
medeuronet

“One study So What has undertaken for us, was a pivotal piece of research among our major donors, high value givers and key influential supporters, along with new potential donors. It helped us understand what makes people support our work, what connection, concern and capacity they have, additionally, what they expect in return. Their in-depth research has created deep insights into donors motivations, which in turn has made our fundraising efforts more successful. It also gave us powerful insights into our brand, our position in consumers’ minds, and some of the prevailing ideologies and myths about homelessness. The research conducted by So What helped us re-position our ‘Friends of the Foundation Scheme’ and create a number of high value gift opportunity programmes that have already borne fruit. Overall, not just a worthwhile investment, but priceless results that have improved and strengthened our fundraising strategy, in what is a difficult financial climate

So What studios make people feel at ease and comfortable, enabling them to go beyond kneejerk responses and really get under the skin of things. I can highly recommend for any client who wants to go well beyond just gathering information and make strategic decisions that are business critical !”

Anthony North , Big Issue

I have worked with Baz van Cranenburgh for over 25 years and would highly recommend him and his company So What? They really listened to our issues and developed a tailor made research project. My first experience was when he conducted a pricing sensitivity study which ended up optimizing the price of one of our products so that we maximized its profitability. The study easily paid for itself. Very recently we have been working on the introduction of a new product. On Baz’s advice we decided to conduct some in-depth personal interviews to gain detailed product feedback from consumers. The research findings have proven to be extremely valuable in the positioning and communications about the new product. For a relatively small investment we have saved a lot of time and money by being able to focus on specific consumer segments rather than a wider audience. The reports for the research were detailed, accurate and highly actionable. Last but not least, the final invoice matched the quote, which is always a great ending to a project, excellent work for the agreed budget.

Kevin Couch – CEO, Oreade Music

" I have known Baz van Cranenburgh in a professional capacity for over 15 years, indeed over this period I have benefited greatly on numerous occasions from his exceptional talents. Designing and conducting comprehensive, robust and sophisticated qualitative and quantitative research is only the tip of his ice berg. His skill is his analysis of complex data and its conversion to information on which one can act. I have no hesitation in recommending the impressive SoWhat team and the resources Baz has expertly assembled in the Richmond and London studios."

Nick Loan – Entrepreneur, and former Managing Director Bausch & Lomb UK

3 words come to my mind to qualify your work: “deep consumer understanding, agile and very results oriented”

Adrien Lamacq, Olay Brand Manager – Procter & Gamble

"Working with So What Research and Brandcare gave A.T. Cross the ability to peer into the thoughts and feelings of the global consumer quickly and efficiently. Their proprietary method opened our eyes to our brand's latent strength across the world. Additionally, they gave us insight into what we could do to capitalize on the great potential contained within our brand. John and Baz helped us redefine our thinking about Cross and started us on the path to redefining the brand."

Chad Mellen - President, Cross (Accessory Group)

Very few facilities just feel right. But the ones that do have a welcoming, relaxed, natural air and respondents just seem happier to open up. ‘So What’ is one of those rare, precious places and has become one of my favourite venues. Plus, Baz and his team couldn’t be nicer or more helpful and you get to listen to some pretty cool modern jazz while you’re there – what’s not to like …?!

Mark Stockdale, Wheelbarrow Research & Planning

So What?..... one of London’s funkiest and most innovative studios around.

Chris Forrest – Partner, The Nursery

So What in Richmond provides an excellent location, environment and service… this means our groups run smoothly and our clients leave impressed.

Neil Harding, MD Laser Marketing Research

"Last month I attended some groups at your venue and I wanted to let you know that I was very impressed! I have attended viewing facilities at various venues here in the UK – but nowhere as "homely" as your place. You've done a fantastic job at designing the rooms to really feel like someone's living room. I'd never seen respondents look so relaxed so quickly!!!"

Karen Rodgers, Customer Research Project Manager, Standard Life.

"I'm a great fan of So What? Studios because they are well equipped and professionally run, but above all, they have character and individuality. They are managed by a small team and the environment has a personality rather than just corporate neutrality. The respondents appreciate this, as well as client viewers"

Graham Woodham, Qualitative Director GfK NOP Ltd.

"We have used the SoWhat facility in Chitty Street many many times now - its a great location, the price is good, Baz and his team are always very helpful and friendly...and of course the jazz is cool!"

Nick Johnson, MD Volante Research

"I have been using So What's facilities for a number of years now and always found that Baz and his team successfully strike that difficult balance between friendliness and professionalism, with a warm welcome and a readiness to do what they can to help in any situation. My only criticism is that they encourage me to eat too much chocolate"

Graham Booth, Managing Partner Movement
